Piya Chattopadhyay
Host, CBC Radio’s Out in the Open

Piya Chattopadhyay is host of CBC Radio’s Out in the Open, an adventurous and wide-ranging weekly exploration of how one timely topic is affecting regular people. This is a show about taking on the difficult conversations we need to have, and bringing the unspoken, uncomfortable and untrodden … out in the open.
Piya has been a long-time fixture in Canadian broadcasting, often described as a “swiss army knife” for her versatility in hosting numerous radio and TV programs, including The Current (CBC), Q (CBC), and The Agenda (TVO).
Piya also spent more than a decade in the field as a news reporter here in Canada, but was often on the road, reporting from Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, India, Kenya, the U.K., and France, to name but a few places. From 2007 to 2009, Piya was the Middle East Correspondent for Fox News Radio, based in Jerusalem. But she also travelled and covered the Middle East region extensively, reporting stories on war and conflict, peace and politics, and coping with everyday life.
In her off-air life, Chattopadhyay has three young children and is married to fellow CBC journalist Peter Armstrong.
